Bengaluru: A reserved man who was determined to get into the civil services and serve the nation - that is how friends of N. The marriage was scheduled to be held at Gangamma Thimmaiah Convention Hall in Basaveshwaranagar on Marchto a police sub-inspector's daughter from Hoskote who is also a relative of the family. The wedding invitations cards have been printed, and a 'puja' was scheduled for Friday after which the parents thought of distributing the cards," Mr.

Ananth said. Large number of friends and relatives thronged the third floor house of N. Harish on the 13th Main, Manjunath Nagar in Rajajinagar, where his parents have been living for over 20 years. Harish was born and brought up in the very same locality where his father Nagarajappa and mother Shivamma had owned another house two streets away. They were native of Kannamangala village in Hoskote, Ananth said. Harish has two sisters, Asha and Poornima who are married.

The family was informed by the Chennai police around am about Harish's demise and Nagarajappa along with one of his son-in-law left for Chennai immediately. Relatives and friends were seen consoling Harish's mother and his two sisters who are yet to come to terms with the demise of Harish. Ananth added. He got through IPS after he had gone for a coaching in Delhi for a year after his engineering course. Babu said adding that D. Ravi, the late IAS officer, too was his roommate in Delhi while they were preparing for the civil services.

Ananth and Narendra Babu said that after Harish's posting, he was not much in communication with his friend circles in Rajajinagar. But many a time, whenever he picked our calls, he used to converse in broken Tamil, Ananth recalled hinting that issue also could also be reason for his side-lining in the police department there. Ananth said adding that the Tamil Nadu government will have to conduct a fair probe and bring justice to Harish's family here.

Besides studies and preparation for civil services, he used to play cricket on weekends with his friends and used to go for trips and outings along with his friends at least twice a year, his friends recollected.

Karnataka home minister says don't compel police to use force to implement lockdown. The move by the ministry has upset engineers and others involved in the prestigious project that gave India its fastest train.

They say the project is as good as killed at least for the next two years. The tender process has been cancelled due to allegations that one company was favoured in making the first set of train at a cost of Rs 97 crore.

Also, it is alleged that ICF officials had deviated heavily from the design of the train approved by RDSO by bringing in their own ideas.

Though the tender processes have been cancelled and the Vigilance Wing is holding an investigation, engineers and officials involved in the production of the flagship train are upset, to say the least. This will be the result of the process of cancellation of tenders. Pointing out that the Train 18 has been successfully running on the tracks for the past six months without any major glitch, the engineer said there was no need to cancel the tender process since everything was done in a transparent manner.

Only those involved in the project would know the kind of hard work put in to make an indigenous train in a short span of time. Sources in the ICF said the processes have cancelled to bring in more transparency in the way tenders are awarded. The train can accommodate a total of 1, passengers —78 in the normal coach and 52 in the executive coach — and boasts of passenger amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi infotainment, GPS Based Passenger Information System, plush interiors, bio-vacuum toilets, diffused LED lighting, charging points beneath every seat and CCTV cameras.

One woman from the supply chain, another from an infrastructure manager and a final woman from train operations, together they have helped to shape this issue. Loraine Martins, director of diversity and inclusion, describes what Network Rail has done to tackle three things that have traditionally hindered women in its workforce.

We've announced the date, presented the host, revisited last year's big winners as well as entertainment of yesteryear, and now we're ready to reveal the theme of the RailStaff Awards. Equality, diversity and inclusion EDI has been close to my heart for a very long time and even more so since joining the rail industry.

There are lots of things happening that are really positive: from initiatives to increase the number of female train drivers page 56 to companies providing shared parental leave acknowledging that men have as much a right to care for their families as women and a programme to rollout more toilet facilities for track workers page 42 : the industry is changing for the better.

While these are examples of what we are doing right, not every experience of mine has been positive.

We each have things that make us. Diversity is for all and by discussing what it means and how we are all unique, we can try to make the industry better for each and every one of us.

My hope for the industry has been rekindled as of late. I was recently appointed as a mentor for Andrew Haines, chief executive of Network Rail, on diversity and inclusion issues. To see someone at such a high level take an interest in EDI shows me there is a new wave of change coming and I would like to see every top boss in our industry follow suit and lead from the top, as Andrew has done.

After agreeing to help shape this bumper issue, I met with fellow guest editor Nikki Williams and RailStaff editor Stewart Thorpe in Birmingham back in June to thrash out a plan.

With the input from Anna Delvecchio, who completed the lineup of guest editors, we decided on the most important topics to tackle and how these might be approached. The bulk of this edition starting on page 32 is the product of those discussions.

I hope you enjoy this special issue. The first major structure to be built at Euston as part of HS2 has been given the green light by the London Borough of Camden. The Department for Transport has cancelled the next South Eastern franchise competition because of concerns over costs. But do people really use Google before deciding to register with a dentist? You better believe they do. To prove our point we recently undertook some research with people and ask them whether they would research their dentist or GP before registering at their practice.

Is it working hard to drive patient acquisition or is it scaring them into the arms of your competition? The first piece of advice I would give any dental practice is to be brave and find out now. But where do you start? What is on page five?

What does the news drop in a Google search reveal? What images have been posted? What happens when you search for mentions about your practice or employees on Twitter? Are patients talking about you? Are your employees representing your business in the best possible light? The next place you need to look is on the NHS Choices site. This is really important as it allows your patients to review your practice, leave comments and compare you against your competition.

Here patients can search by postcode for their nearest dental practices. Similar to review sites such as Trip Advisor it provides consumers with a star rating system and carries comments left by current and former patients. I walk by a practice regularly. Based on this I had half decided to register with them.

Listings are posted as bulleted lists, with footnotes taken from the DNB summaries published in The listings and notes are taken from scanned text that is often corrupt and in need of correction.

If you are engaged in this work you will probably find quite a number of unreferenced articles among the blue links. You are also encouraged to mention the DNB as a reference on such articles whenever they correspond to the summary, as part of the broader campaign for good sourcing.

The text for the first supplement is available too: NB that this Epitome listing includes those supplement articles also. List maintenance tasks are to check and manipulate links in the list with piping or descriptive parenthetical disambiguators, and to mark list entries with templates to denote their status; whilst as far as possible retaining the original DNB names:.

Note that before creating new articles based on DNB text you should undertake searches to check that the article's subject does not already have an article. It is easily possible that the disambiguation used in this page is not the disambiguation used in an existing wikipedia article.

Equally, feel free to improve upon the disambiguation used in redlinks on this page by amending them. Because of the provenance of the listing, a number of the original articles will not in fact be in the announced volume, but in one of the three supplement volumes published in Since the DNB did not include articles about living people, this will be the case whenever the date of death is after the publication date of the attributed volume.

In due course there will be a separate listing. For general ideas of where we are, and some justification of the approach being taken, see the essay Wikipedia:Merging encyclopedias.

Whatever may Je the imperfectioris-of our school tuilion this defect is rather to be attributed lo a want of taste and consequent neglect of practice of grown up individuals than to any defect in their elementary training. Why it should be so we can discover no good cause but on the contrary see many substantial reasons why reading aloud should be cultivated as one of the most vuscful and attractive of domestic accomplish- ments.

As mere exercise it is highly beneficial on account of the strength and vigor which it confers on the chest and lungs; while the men- tal pleasure to be derived therefrom is one of the most de- lightful that can adorn the family circle.

Gathered round the winter's fire or evening lamp what could be more cheerful for the aged and infirm what more instructive to the younger branches or more exemplaiy to thecaieless. Were females of all ranks to adopt the practice more than they do at present they would bind to their homes many who are otherwise disposed to go in search of unworthy enjoyments and would add another chain of delightfurassociations u herewith to attach the -young to the family hearih.

Another advantage which it would confer on the fair readers themselves would be- the improved utterance and intonation which correct read- ing would produce instead ofthat simpering and lisping which are so often to be met with even among f males of the higher classes Nor is it to the women in their domestic capacity only that the practice of reading aloud woulJ be attended with benefit.

Many of the middle and lower classes are under the necessity of earning a liveli- hood bv in-door employments such as millinery straw plaiting paitern painting and the like and being in gen- ral occupied in one apartment of moderate size the read- ingaloud of proper books would be lo them not only a source of healthful recreation hut of amusement and in- struction In such establishments rending by turns would present a beautiful pictuie.

The minds of active children are ever agog after something on which their fancy may rest. This principle of the human faculty never can be satisfied short of enjoyment in something. This being a self-evident position the question fairly aris- es what is the best food for such minds? If we wish their faculties to remain useless deprive children as much as possible of alfsources of information ; teach them that all polish of whatever kind it may be is superfluous.

Thrn they will either be drones or vagabonas according as the bent of their inclination ma' lead them. But on the contrary if you would like to have the offspring of your charge both active and useful place such incentives before them as would lead a lender and succeptible mind into a train of useful thoughts which would so bias future conduct as to justify the saying of the wise man "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he willnot depart from it.
